About

Ok, I was slightly off when I predicted that blogs would only last slightly longer than slap bracelets. I’m eating my words and have decided to ride that bouncy funball otherwise known as the blog-o-sphere. I hope this will be of some value to someone. If not, at least I know my legacy will survive a nuclear war even after all civilization is gone. (Internet Wayback Machine)

Chas Elliott Photography is a studio based in the Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia areas. We shoot weddings & portraits and concerts & events. Our blog focuses on any topic that might interest a photographer or our clients. I have divided the articles into different categories, each article designated as such.

Behind the Lens : Here I share some basic techniques on taking good photographs. Nothing too technical, but some of you might find my real world examples enlightening. Those of you new to DSLR’s might finally grasp some previously elusive pimpernel photography concepts.

Weddings : When I feel like it, I’ll post a wedding or portrait session and my favorite shots of the day. When I don’t, I won’t. (Hey, a wedding is a private affair.)

Gear : I wanted to put to good use the many hours or research (cumulatively speaking–days) I put into even the smallest purchases. Forums, reviews, expert opinions etc. Hopefully my extremely biased conclusions on what’s hot or not can help you in your investments. Unlike some bloggers, I don’t make a living off you purchasing the products I recommend, so no “click here to purchase” links can be found. Instead, exercise that index finger of yours and go to the search engine of your choice to find where to buy them. As with all gear guides or reviews, in about a weeks time the advice given will be out dated. One option is to give up researching what’s best and instead use this method: invest in a small photo printer, a large dartboard and some darts (click here to purchase).

On a side note, I will try not to predict the future, but rather find those who have tried and poke fun at their attempts. Like this guy describing in 1945 the future of photography. Even I could have guessed that cameras would be embedded in millions of pocket sized, rotary-less phones and not mounted on our foreheads.

Travel : Commentary and photos on places we’ve been with our cameras.

Misc : This category is a box in the garage that contains among other things: old toys, gloves with out pairs and an hydrox cookie that wouldn’t be there if it were a real Oreo.
